Family-Friendly Hiking, Biking, Snowshoeing & Panoramic City Views
The Laurentian Escarpment’s extensive network of trails is open to the public year-round offering spectacular views of the city and mixed terrain. The trails are popular with local hikers, dog walkers, runners, fat bikers, snowshoers and mountain bikers. The trail network is actively managed by the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority and the North Bay Mountain Bike Association. Trail markings, parking and trail enhancements are ongoing as part of the Laurentian Escarpment Community Trails Project.
Hiking the Laurentian Escarpment in winter is an extraordinary adventure that showcases the rugged beauty of North Bay. As snow blankets the escarpment, the trails that wind through this majestic terrain offer a thrilling and picturesque experience for winter hikers. The towering cliffs, frozen creek, and panoramic vistas create a dramatic backdrop against the glistening white landscape.
The rocky terrain of the escarpment is transformed by the deep snow which levels out the steep areas, making for a great snowshoeing experience. Snowshoe rentals are available at Laurentian Ski Hill. The grooming of trails in winter for fat biking make for a welcoming day of winter biking suitable for all levels.
